For the most recent installment of our Making Connections series, I wanted to check in with one of French Teachers, and who better to talk to than Alex Vigo. Alex has been a teacher at the Language Academy for many years now and he is not only and excellent French Teacher, he’s part of the Language Academy family. He is originally from city of Troyes in Champagne region of France but has made Charlotte his home. One of my favorite things to do at work is to check-in on his classes. His rapport with his students is out of this world and he has a real loyal following at the Academy. Did I mention that he wears stylish red socks? I recently sent Alex some questions and here are his answers.

1. How long have you been teaching at the Language Academy?

I believe I have been with the Language Academy since 2011. 7 years goes by fast!

2. How has your teaching style evolved over time?

I have been able to develop a more varied and enjoyable style not only teaching grammar and but also incorporating culture, history, art and cultural differences. It makes it a lot more enjoyable for the students.

3. What’s your favorite level to teach and why?

I don’t really have a preference. With beginning students, I really enjoy taking them from zero and seeing how much they have improved just a few weeks later. It’s quite gratifying. With the more advanced students, you can get into the more complex nuances of French language and culture, which they find interesting and I do as well.

4. What do you like most about teaching at the Language Academy?

I really enjoy the excellent work environment and the students. The students are great people!

5. What do you like to do when you are not teaching?

I work in the banking and legal fields and teach on the side but I still try to make room for my hobbies. I like to run and to travel.
