FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FAQS

How many levels of classes do you offer?

There are 10 levels of classes offered for each language. The availability of the levels varies depending on demand from students. If you do not see the level you are looking for, please contact our office at 704.548.0048 or at info@carolinalanguage.com to be put on a waiting list.

How many classes will I need to take before I can carry on a conversation?

On average most students are able to carry on a basic conversation by the end of level 4. Students who apply themselves outside of class by getting exposed to the language on a regular basis advance more quickly than those who only go to class and do the homework.

What are some things I can do outside of class to help me learn faster?

There are many opportunities in our community to read, listen to, and practice the language you are learning. Some suggestions are to read magazines, books, newspapers, and/or websites; watch foreign television, movies, and/or YouTube videos; attend foreign language events in the area; and/or attend conversation hours through groups like International House or those found on meetup.com. Anything you can do to reinforce what you are learning in class will help you tremendously.

After completing all 10 levels, will I be fluent?

Fluency requires many years of intensive study in a language. Most students who attend and participate in the classes, complete the homework, and practice the language on a regular basis will achieve proficiency in the language by the end of the 10 levels. For those who would like to work towards fluency, we offer private classes so that you can continue your studies on a more intensive level.

How do I register for a class?

You may register for a class in 1 of 3 ways:

1- Online at www.carolinalanguage.com. From the home page, use the Language Classes tab to select the language for which you would like to register. From there you can select the type of course you would like and register.

2- Via telephone by calling 704.548.0048. Please have your credit card ready when you call.

3- Via mail using our registration form. You may download that form here.

What is the registration deadline for a class?

We have a tiered pricing system for registration, so the earlier you register, the better the price you pay. In theory you can register up until the day before a class starts but we recommended registering as soon as you know that you would like to take the class as they can fill up quickly and there are no more than 8 seats available in each class.

When do I have to pay for the class?

Payment for the classes is due at the time of registration.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept all major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express), checks, money orders, and cash. Cash payments must be made in person at our University office. Please do not send cash through the mail.

Is there a way to make up a missed class?

There are 3 options for making up a missed class:

1- Contact your instructor to find out what material was covered and the homework assignment and then review the lesson and complete the assignment on your own.

2- If available, attend the same session during a different scheduled class either at the same or other locations at no additional charge. This can be arranged by emailing us at info@carolinalanguage.com or calling our office at 704.548.0048 to discuss available options.

3- Schedule a make-up session with an instructor by emailing us at info@carolinalanguage.com or calling our office at 704.548.0048. Make-up classes are $30/hour for Spanish. French, Portuguese, German, Italian and Mandarin Chinesemake-ups are $40/hour.
